Mathematics 11
ESSENTIALS OF MATHEMATICS 11: THIS IS THE LAST YEAR OF EMATH 11 Description: Essentials of Mathematics 11 covers problem solving, income and debt, personal income tax, owning and operating a vehicle, investments, a business plan, measurement technology, data analysis and interpretation, relations and formulas, and applications of probability.
APPLICATIONS OF MATHEMATICS 11: THIS IS THE LAST YEAR OF APPS MATH 11 Indicator of Success: A grade of C (or higher) in Applications of Mathematics 10.
Description: Students will continue to build on the skills and knowledge developed in previous grades. Students will deal extensively with financial mathematics: wages, taxes, exchange rates, bank statements, budgeting, investment and credit. Students will use appropriate technology to solve problems in linear programming, to graph and analyze functions. In measurement, students will study the effects of scale in similar objects, calculate possible measurements within stated tolerances, and solve problems involving percentage error. In geometry, students will focus on the circle and related angles and line segments. Students will also analyze graphs or charts to derive specific information in the data analysis unit.
PRINCIPLES OF MATHEMATICS 11: This is the last year of pmath 11 Indicator of Success: A grade of C+ (or higher) in Principles of Mathematics 10.
Description: Students will continue to develop and extend skills and knowledge previously acquired in the areas of Number (concepts, operations); Pattern & Relations (patterns, variables, equations); Shape & Space (measurement, transformations). The emphasis will be on formal process and theory.
PREP MATHEMATICS 11: only open to students who would take pmath 11 in second semester – this is the last year of prep math 11 Indicators of Success: By admission only. Students must discuss the rationale for this option directly with the administration.
This course is designed for students who have passed Principles of Math 10 with less than 60% and plan to take Principles of Math 11. This course will review the important topics and skills of Principles of Math 10 and preview the topics and skills encountered in Principles of Math 11. This course does not fulfill the graduation requirements for a Math 11 credit.
The purpose of this course is to solidify the mathematical foundation and boost the confidence of students looking to take Principles of Math 11. Topics include: simplifying radicals, factoring and polynomials, co-ordinate geometry, functions, trigonometry, quadratics, systems of equations, linear inequalities and circle geometry.
